A natural home for endangered species

Wuppertal Zoo is one of the oldest and most traditional zoos in Germany. It is home to around 3,300 animals from all over the world, including numerous endangered species. In terms of landscape, the zoo is one of the most beautiful of its kind. Situated on a slope, wide meadows, large ponds and old trees dominate the scene.

Eye to eye with the big cats

African lions and Siberian tigers also enjoy huge outdoor enclosures at Wuppertal Zoo. With a bit of luck, you can even see the animals up close. The Sambatrasse offers you a beautiful view. The former railroad line leads cyclists and hikers right through the zoo grounds. A bridge takes you almost directly over the tiger enclosure.

Since 2021, Wuppertal Green Zoo has had one more attraction: Aralandia, a 1,000 square meter free-flight aviary, offers its feathered inhabitants plenty of space to frolic, fly and flirt. The marriage market is open here, especially for the highly endangered hyacinth macaws, red-eared macaws and blue-fronted macaws. And as a visitor, you can watch the mating live.

From apes to tomato frogs: Your animal discovery tour

Gorillas, bears, elephants, tapirs or narrow-mouthed frogs - would you like to find out more about the animals at the zoo? On a zoo safari, you can explore the grounds on your own and answer exciting questions. Or you can ask the experts what you've always wanted to know. A zoo tour gives you the opportunity to do just that. The evening tour, when the zoo is actually already closed, is also a special experience.

In addition to unforgettable animal encounters, the Green Zoo also invites you to a wide variety of events such as concerts and festivals. It opens its doors to curious visitors all year round - every day. Whether in spring, summer, autumn or winter - a visit is worthwhile at any time of year.
